After I graduated from Washington and Lee University in Virginia, I decided to become a Presbyterian minister like my father. I told my father this over lunch at the Sanford House restaurant, and by dinnertime he had called his friend, Dr. James McCord, President of Princeton Theological Seminary, and had me ready to go there at the end of the summer. When I told this to Flannery, as she, her mother and I were sitting on the front porch at Andalusia, Flannery seemed pleased and said she was sure we might have much deeper ecumenical discussions when I began to study at Princeton Seminary.
